Shotgun question

What do you guys think of this gun

http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/p...ducts_id/91401

Total cost would be $209 after I pay $20 to my dealer. Apparently I can add aftermarket parts that fit an 870.

I found an interesting review about it here

Looks nice, it seems that a large part of their imported firearms are from China. Read the about page on the link below. Could be good to go, not sure? Anyone else? Here is the Interstate Arms site:

Buy American,you won't be sorry.

Hi for another $50.00 or so you can get a Mossberg or Remington.I think Remigton also has a Rebate.Hunting season is upon us so shop the sales. This will probably be a purchase you will keep for years.Pro-rate the extra $50 over ten years and your extra cost is $5.00.Regards,Mike

I would also be concerned about powdered metal parts.

Hi,All 870 recievers are made from solid steel,http://www.remington.com/products/fi...uns/model_870/ Also what if you need parts or say a different barrel ;longer or shorter.Just my personal experience.Regards,Mike

Thanks for the tip. I go to that site all the time, how crazy that the day I am thinking about buying this gun, they have one on sale. The problem though, is that it has rifle sights, and I kind of like the ghost ring sites on the one from Buds gun shop, even though they are almost the same rifle otherwise.

Also only $10 in difference when you add in the shipping, since Bud's has them for $189 shipped.

You might go with Bud's then........just trying to help.

I though about buying one myself.

Re: Shotgun question

Waste of 200 bucks. Throw another 40-50 bucks in and get yourself a REMINGTON 870, should easily be able to get a used one for that and possibly even a NEW ONE

You can get a new one at IMPACTGUNS.COM for 313.00 which is one of the best prices I have ever seen but I see no reason why you cant find a used one at a pawn shop for 220 if you knwo how to haggle.

I think the shotgun youre looking at will do the job and perform for you, I know people who own them and have no real complaints, I just think if youre going to invest in a shotgun youre better off investing in the tried and true, and that would be the Remington 870. I think in the end you will feel better about the money being spent if you have a Remington in your hands.

Of course you could easily find a Mossy 500 for that price also, they are very well made shottys, a little less smooth on the action than a Remington but a good solid shotgun for all around use.

Better yet, just watch the local newspapers and cut a $100 off the retail price ... and NO Fed paperwork.

THAT would definitely be the ideal way to go if you can find one in the paper for sale. Absolutely.

Re: Shotgun question

Well, I went ahead and bought the one from Bud's. I could have gotten a new 870 express for $289+tax here, but then I would have had to buy ghost ring sights, which I wanted, which makes the 870 even more expensive.

This is an 870 clone, and apparently 870 parts are (mostly) interchangeable. I'll let you guys know how it shoots sometime next week after I get it from my dealer.

870's and Mossburg 500's are common and cheap in the midwest.

You can haggle with a pawn shop owner and cut a fair deal on either.

The 500's riot barrel and mag tube are cheap too ... just as good as an 870.

Re: Shotgun question

Got my shotgun yesterday. Took it out and ran some buckshot and #4 shot through it. That thing kicks like a mule, worse than my .308 Enfield.

Am I am a big ***** or do I need to pick up one of those cushions that go on the end of the stock?

Yeah, I think I am going to have to. The thing that seems weird to me is that I shoot a friend's Baikal side by side and it kicks like a puppy, so I really wasnt expecting this gun to be so rough.

Buying an inferior shotgun is like buying inferior life insurance.

Remington, Mossberg, Winchester, or a reliable European brand. ONLY.

Personally, I would go with the 870 or 500. Parts and add-ons are cheap and plentiful. Even a used one in great shape is a good purchase. My fave is the Mossberg 500 Mariner with a marincote finish and pistolgrip synthetic stock with built in shell holder. Throw on a SideSaddle shellholder and a bandoleer sling and you are your own fire team.

I shoot shotguns A LOT. I would suggest a recoil pad by the trade name of KickEze, it i smade of Sorbathane. It is the bees knees! Th emodel made for sporting clays has the heel (the top of the kickpad) clipped at an angle to provide better clearance for rapidly mounting the gun to the shoulder. It may need to be fitted by your local gunsmith, but believe me, well worth it!!!

I have a chinese Ithaca 37 and I 'had' a Remington 870.

The Chinese model hurts like hell, the 870 was okay to me...of course it was stolen and the ithaca is all I have left right now so it will have to work.

Re: Shotgun question

Why should one brand of shotgun 'kick' more than another, if it is the same kind of action, like a pump?

I used to have a Remington 1100 semi auto that I used to shoot once in a while, but I haven't used it much lately. I recently traded it for a 870 marine magnum pump. I had to order the 870 from the dealer, and I was surprised to see it came with a factory recoil pad. I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, but I was a little dismayed by the recoil pads soft rubber, because it seemed to cling to my shirt when bringing the stock up to my shoulder, whereas a smooth buttstock would just glide over the cloth to my shoulder.

Edit: I don't go to gun shops all that often, and the closest one recently switched over to serving police only. Anyways, I was surprised to see all the apparently well maintained, used shotguns, Stevens, Ithacas, etc. They were really low priced. I could have picked up three of them for what I paid for 870. Maybe I should have.

Re: Shotgun question

Well in my case it was the stock on the chinese model,it was simply a wooden stock with a hard plastic end cap.

The 870 had a rubber end.

Also weight might have been a factor......
